This coordinated design combines an assessment and a simulation.
The Denison Organizational Culture Survey gathers anonymous and confidential opinions and input from the perspectives of people across the organization about its functionality. Sixty items provide data for feedback on 12 dimensions of the organization’s culture. Data are reported in aggregate and can be broken out for subgroups of the organization. You can compare these data for your client organization to that reported by high-performing and low-performing organizations. Use the information and comparison to help the organization better understand what it is doing well and where it may need to focus more attention.
Present to the group feedback from the Denison Organizational Culture Survey. During the debrief following Production Run # 1 in the Paper Planes, Inc. simulation,, ask the group to share how they saw any of these cultural traits play out during the simulation. With this simulation, use groups of participants from across the organization so that participants are not grouped with their usual coworkers. Use feedback from DOCS to help clarify the collective experience of the participants as they move from a functionally-designed system in Run # 1, to a group-designed system in Run #2, and then work toward continuous improvement through Run #3. Use DOCS to provide the cognitive feedback. Paper Planes, Inc. will show participants how behaviors that permeate the organizational culture affect team performance and effectiveness.
